HSBC x Hong Kong 7s

Giving local startups the world stage.

Hong Kong’s startups are the future of the city’s economy, yet HSBC is considered as a bank that only serves big business. That’s why we decided to give its biggest marketing sponsorship budget, to put these startups on the world’s stage.

The Hong Kong Rugby 7s.

During the Sevens competition, the ball was passed around Hong Kong to record introductions from local entrepreneurs.

Business pitches were then turned into contents to be broadcasted along the consumer journey of corporate visitors who were after the Rugby Sevens.

Original synopsis:

Opening scene

In the HSBC main building, we see an RM kick the ball to start the game. It lands onto the hand of a tour guide, that is Klook’s CEO.

Klook

The tour guide, a.k.a. Klook’s CEO, catches the ball and starts running. The tourists follow him closely.

Klook’s CEO passes by a hotel and see Tink Labs’ CEO inside, so he throws him the ball.

Tink Labs

Tink Labs’ CEO is in the midst of demonstrating the functions of the smartphone to the hotel manager. He sees the ball flying towards him, so he catches it and hops onto a tram.

When the tram passes by a footbridge, he sees Shopline’s CEO walking on the bridge, so he throws the ball upwards from the tram.

Shopline
CEO grabs the flying ball on the bridge, and rushes back to her office in Quarry Bay. She sells the ball online on their client’s website. A delivery man comes in and collects the ball.

Sensetime

The delivery man knocks on the office door and bring the parcel to CEO.

The CEO does a few postures to unlock his phone to pay for the delivery using face recognition, and then unwraps the parcel.

CEO then throws the ball out of the window from his office.

Sanomics
The ball flies through another window and enters Sanomics’ lab. The CEO catches the ball right before it hits his apparatus. He then runs out of the lab, waving and yelling “Hey, get ready to grab the ball!”

Insight Robotics

The CEO of Insight Robotics reaches out of the window and yells, “Here I am!”

CEO of Sanomics then throws the ball upward. CEO of Insight Robotics catches it, and attaches the ball to the drone.

The drone flies out of the window towards Mobvista’s office.

Mobvista

The CEO of Mobvista sees the ball flying towards his office. He then places ads about rugby all around Hong Kong. The ball flies through the window and he takes it.

As he walks towards Star Ferry, everyone around him sees ads about Rugby 7s and gasps in awe.

He boards the ferry. Everyone looks at him and the rugby ball he is holding, and they all follow him.

Stadium

As CEO of Mobvista runs pass the WeWork building, he meets the HSBC/PayMe team who are in HSBC Rugby uniform. They take over the rugby and runs towards the stadium. More and more people join the run. When they reach the outside of the stadium, a rugby player kicks the ball in to kick start the game.
